Breakfast at Maison Mathis, New Haven CT
One of our favorite things to do on a weekend is take Julia to breakfast, so I am always looking for recommendations on great new places to try. One recommendation that I received was to try Maison Mathis, in New Haven. So we decided to try it out. They are located within walking distance to Yale University and the Shops at Yale. They have metered street parking available, as well as parking lot with an attendant present. We decided to go and give it a try one weekend. Before we went I reviewed their social media account to see what was really popular. My husband is a coffee lover, so…

Emerging from Trauma: Stephanie’s NICU Journey
I had my daughter 17 months ago, but it seems like a lifetime. We didn’t have a hard time getting pregnant. It was almost instant. But staying pregnant was a different story for me. I ended up in the hospital at 27 weeks, 4 days with preterm premature rupture of the membranes (pPROM). My water had broken. My job now was to try and stay pregnant until 34 weeks. Sounds easy right? Not so much. After numerous days of magnesium sulfate to stop labor, antibiotics, fluids, and a full round of steroid shots to strengthen the baby’s lungs I was on bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy. Every minute…

Beating the Odds – A PPROM Story
It sounds so easy to do: just stay pregnant. Every minute and every single hour that I could stay pregnant gave my daughter a better chance of thriving after birth. My life changed forever in January 2016. I was happily pregnant and getting into the routine that every nesting mother-to-be does. My registries were done and the maternity photos scheduled, along with all plans for the pregnancy and birth. We met with pediatricians and chose one; we met with a doula and started planning our birthing experience. My birth plan was “to make it out alive”, and looking back on it I wonder if subconsciously I knew my pregnancy was…

Arethusa Farms, Bantam CT
We took the ice-cream plunge, and decided to go and try Arethusa Farms one afternoon. We were so glad that we did! It was a beautiful drive through Morris and into Bantam. I had heard so many great things about Arethusa, but one of the best recommendations that I received was to go and try the ice cream. Julia and I took a trip one afternoon to be taste testers before we brought my husband along, and it was such a treat. Julia loved the Vanilla flavor. Their ice-cream is rich and velvety smooth. They have a great offering of flavors, and some of them are seasonal. Arethusa also…

Five Years Married
Five years married, that went by in the blink of an eye! But I guess the saying is true, time flies when you’re having fun. Looking back on our wedding photos really just gives me all the feels. We were old school, but pretty young in my opinion when we got married. We didn’t move in together until we got married, which in a way gave me something to look forward to. Dave & I got married the day after our 10-year dating anniversary. I like to use my joke of “10 years to life” but in this case it’s holding true! Being with Dave has just felt so natural,…

Welcoming Julia
The few weeks before Julia was born were the most emotionally challenging weeks of our lives, as we saw how the best laid plans can change in the blink of an eye. I woke up around 5:30am on Tuesday morning, January 26th, to discover my water had broken while I slept. Dave and I quickly went to Waterbury hospital after talking to my doctor, where it was confirmed my water had broken but I was not yet in labor. I was immediately transferred by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital, where they could take care of a baby born prior to 28 weeks gestation. At the time I was 27…
